Reporting Health Care Fraud and Abuse
What is insurance fraud?
Health care fraud is intentionally making any false statement or
misrepresentation on a claim, billing, receipt or any other associated materials
with the intent of obtaining unwarranted payment. It can come in many forms -
from "loaning" an insurance ID card to someone for a medical service to
elaborate billing schemes. The cost of health care fraud affects everyone.
At Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska, we're helping protect members and
providers from fraudulent billings and misuse of ID cards through our Special
Investigations Unit.
What you can do to help combat fraud
Let us know when:
- Your Explanation of Benefits (EOB) shows payment for services you didn’t
receive
- The names and dates on the EOB do not match your records
- The medications listed on your quarterly drug EOB are not prescriptions you
purchased or are not from a pharmacy you use
