Blue Cross Blue Shield of Nebraska is requiring the following coding related to the new H1N1 vaccinations and a reminder on billing for seasonal flu.
10/08/2009
Seasonal Flu (Applies to routine flu vaccinations):
For seasonal flu BCBSN is following CPT logic:
Administration: 90471 & 90472
Vaccine: 90656, 90657 & 90658 (any of these codes can be billed for flu mist)
Flu Mist Administration: 90473
H1N1: (New for 2009):
BCBSNE is following Federal Regulations for billing of the H1N1 Administration:
Administration: G9141
Vaccine: G9142 (Nasal or injection)
OR
Administration: 90470 (Intramuscular or nasal)
Vaccine: 90663
As there is no cost for the vaccine, default billed charge to $0.00 whether billing G9142 or 90663.
Facility billings ( UB form ) use revenue code 771 for the vaccine administration with the G9141 or 90470 code.
For BCBS members receiving both the seasonal flu and H1N1 vaccine at one visit, bill the appropriate codes for the vaccine and use the appropriate administration code for the H1n1 (G9141 or 90470). For each additional vaccine bill the appropriate CPT codes.
Group Number Information
10/06/2009
You do NOT need a group number to submit claims or use the GABBI VRU system. In the past, you could use GABBI to obtain the group number for a BCBSNE member, however, since the group number is no longer needed it is not displayed on the BCBSNE member identification card and the group number service is not in our new GABBI as a service.
Please do not call our Provider Service department asking for the group number as it is not necessary.
