Recognition for Quality Programs
The purpose of the Recognition for Quality program is to highlight the quality
of the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska provider network and improve the
health care of its members. The overall structure relies on positive messaging
for participation and/or accomplishment in health care quality improvement.
This voluntary program is for practitioners and facilities choosing to share
their quality improvement initiatives with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of
Nebraska for public recognition. Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska will
recognize participating providers with a recognition certificate for office
display. Other forms of recognition for potential future development include:
- Designation in the provider directory.
- Designation on the Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska website.
We anticipate that support for and participation in this program will develop
and grow from a common commitment among practitioners, providers, employer
groups and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska to provide the best health
care possible for the most value.
Component programs of Recognition for Quality are:
- American Board of Internal Medicine’s Practice Improvement Modules
- Get With The Guidelines™
- Focus on Health
- Blue Center for Cardiac and Bariatric Care
American Board of Internal Medicine (ABIM) - Maintenance of Certification

Get With The GuidelinesTM
The American Heart Association and American Stroke Association have developed
this national program to improve the care given to patients treated in hospitals
for coronary artery disease, congestive heart failure and stroke. Nationally
accepted treatment protocols have been developed as well as data collection
software to track progress towards performance benchmarks. Blue Cross and Blue
Shield of Nebraska is collaborating with the American Heart Association to
promote Get with the Guidelines™ in Nebraska and will pay a portion of the cost
of the three software modules for facilities in rural areas of the state.
Focus on Health
Focus on Health is a Community Diabetes Education Project in collaboration with
the Nebraska Lions Foundation, the Nebraska Medical Association, CIMRO of
Nebraska, the Nebraska Department of Health and Human Services System and other
groups to improve the health of patients with diabetes. Blue Cross and Blue
Shield of Nebraska is paying a portion of the cost of this initiative to train
office staff, provide data collection and documentation tools and promote high
quality care for diabetics in Nebraska.
Blue Centers for Cardiac and Bariatric Care
Implemented by the Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association, this program
designates a national network of high performing facilities for cardiac and
bariatric surgery. Facilities that meet initial criteria for procedure volume,
services and outcomes can apply to be designated a Blue Center. Each local Plan
evaluates and designates the facilities to be included. This national network
structure is particularly valuable to large national employer groups that then
can direct their employees to appropriate centers for care.
