Charitable Contributions & Event Sponsorships
As a Nebraska-based company, we believe it's our responsibility to be an active
member of the communities in which our customers live and work. We pride ourselves
on the trustworthiness of our brand and the confidence that others have placed
in us. BCBSNE extends a number of charitable contributions and sponsors various
events throughout the state. In this section, you can find information on how
to apply for this type of funding. Note: Nonprofits that are located outside of
Omaha and Lincoln may also find it useful to learn more about our Greater Nebraska
Community Grant Process.
Application Process
Non-profit organizations (certified as tax-exempt by the Internal Revenue Service
under Section 501(c)(3) of the U.S. Internal Revenue Code and residing in the
state of Nebraska) seeking a charitable contribution or sponsorship must complete
and submit the online contribution application at least six weeks prior to the
event or program for which funding is requested.
You may contact Community Relations if you have additional information
that you would like to include in your proposal.
Guidelines
All community relations activities must complement our mission, vision and
core values, and align with our strategic goals and objectives. With this in
mind, we primarily support:
- Health-related organizations and initiatives that promote public health
and quality improvement in health
- Health and wellness events at which our employees can participate as
individuals or part of a corporate team
- Programs and initiatives that have statewide reach and will give BCBSNE
visibility above and beyond the Omaha metropolitan area
- Specifically, when evaluating a request, greater consideration is given
to:
- Impact: will the activity impact a sizable number of current or potential
members?
- Non-profit organizations with BCBSNE board members or management employees
serving on their board of directors
- Requests from key customers
- Requests from a board member or the president and CEO
Secondarily, we also support:
- Education at all levels, both public and private
- Causes that support our government and civic relations
- The arts and other programs influencing the overall quality of life in our community
We generally will not consider requests for or from:
- Programs or events outside of Nebraska
- Organizations that are not tax-exempt
- Individuals
- Political campaigns, candidates, parties or partisan activities
- Sectarian, denominational, or religious organizations for support of theological functions
- Athletes and athletic teams (except for advertising at high school, college and professional sporting events)
- Beauty pageants
- Direct funding of labor or fraternal organizations
- Students raising funds for travel to an out-of-state competition
- Construction projects for hospitals and health systems
- Organizations that are in direct competition with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska
- Organizations or causes that do not complement our corporate civic goals
- Providers or provider organizations
