Steven S. Martin

President and Chief Executive Officer

Steven S. Martin serves as president and chief executive officer for Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska, and is a member of the board of directors.

Martin joined Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska in March 2002 and currently serves on the board of directors of Blue Cross and Blue Shield Association (BCBSA) in Chicago, Illinois and serves as Chairman of the BCBSA Federal Employee Program Board of Managers. Martin also serves as vice chair and board director of the Wellness Councils of America.

Prior to joining Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska, Martin was the founding president, CEO of and a board director for Prime Therapeutics, Inc., a comprehensive pharmacy benefits solutions company. Martin spent 12 years with Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska before joining Prime Therapeutics. His previous positions included vice president of health services research & reimbursement and senior vice president for ProPar services.

He has also held management positions at American HomeCare, Inc., the Upjohn Company, HealthCheck, Inc. and the Menninger Foundation.

Martin earned his Bachelor of Science degree from Washburn University and his Master of Arts degree from the University of Nebraska.

Lewis E. Trowbridge

Executive Vice President, Chief Financial Officer and Treasurer

Lewis E. Trowbridge is executive vice president, chief financial officer and treasurer at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska, and is a member of the company’s executive management team.

In his role, he is responsible for managing actuarial, pricing, budgeting, accounting, corporate support services, government programs and legal functions.

Previously, Trowbridge held president and chief executive officer positions at World Marketing and SilverStone Group, both Omaha-based organizations, as well as a managing partner position at a national accounting firm.

Trowbridge received both bachelors and master’s degrees from the University of Cincinnati. He is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania—Wharton School and Stanford University’s International Executive Education Programs.

Keith G. Bushardt

Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer

Keith G. Bushardt is executive vice president and chief marketing officer at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska, and is a member of the company’s executive management team.

Bushardt joined Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska in June 2005. In his role, he is responsible for managing all sales, marketing, product development, group service, broker relations, communications and provider relations functions for the company.

Prior to joining Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska, Bushardt was executive vice president and general manager of Small Group Service for Corporate Benefit Services of America. He has also held management positions at Principal Financial Group, Wellpoint Health Networks and UnitedHealth Group.

Bushardt earned a Bachelor’s Degree in management science from the State University of New York.

Steven H. Grandfield

Executive Vice President and Chief Operations Officer

Steven H. Grandfield is executive vice president and chief operations officer at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska, and is a member of the company’s executive management team.

Grandfield joined Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska in April 2003, In his role, he is responsible for applications development, computer services, security and quality assurance, electronic commerce, process engineering, data management and technology, HIPAA implementation, CSC, membership, benefits, and integrated business services.

Before coming to Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska, Grandfield was senior vice president, general manager at First Data Corporation.

Grandfield earned Bachelor’s Degrees in business management from Northwest Missouri State and electrical engineering from the University of Nebraska. He currently belongs to the AIM Institute.
